What you need
- A laptop or computer with Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. You host from it.
- A TV or projector connected to it, for the game screen everyone watches.
- Players with their own phones. They don’t install anything.
No internet at the venue? See Hosting with no internet first.
1. Create your account
Go to app.amoquiz.com, enter your name, email and a password of at least 6 characters, and press Sign up. You start on the Free plan: games for up to 3 players and 3 rounds, enough to try everything.
2. Make a game
In My games, press Create game. Or open the arrow next to it to start another way:
- Generate game with AI: give a topic and AI drafts the questions.
- Import from PowerPoint / PDF: bring a quiz you already have. See Import a quiz from PowerPoint or PDF.
Then press Add round and pick a format. Grid, Multiple choice and Type answer are good for a first game. Round types explains them all.
Add questions to the round with Add question (in a Grid, add categories with Add category). Each question can have a picture, a song or a video, for the question and for the answer.
3. Choose who plays and how it looks
Open Game settings to choose Who’s playing:
- Players: everyone plays for themselves.
- Teams: each phone is one team, and the team picks a name.
- Players in teams: everyone joins on their own phone and plays for a team (Pro and Business).
Pick a Game theme for how the game screen and the phones look. Design themes in the sidebar has more, and on Pro and Business you can make your own.
4. Launch
Press Launch in the editor. The host panel opens: this is your screen, the audience doesn’t see it.
- In the Presentation screen card, press Open presentation. A new tab opens: drag it to the TV and make it full screen.
- Click Start game on that tab once. Browsers only play sound after a click, so this lets the music and videos play. Sound plays from the game screen, so connect the speakers there.
- The game screen shows a QR code. Players scan it with the camera, type their name or team name, and press Join. They appear in the host panel as they arrive.
Want to run the game from your phone instead of the laptop? In Remote game control, press Show QR code and scan it. Keep that link to yourself: it controls the game.
5. Host the game
From the host panel (or your phone) you run each question:
- Show question puts it on the screen. For a song or a clip, press Play.
- Answers arrive from the phones. In a buzzer round, the first to buzz in answers out loud, and you press Correct or Wrong.
- Show answer reveals it, and the points are added.
- Next question moves on.
Between rounds, Presentation controls shows the Score table, and at the end the Podium, revealing 3rd, 2nd and 1st place one by one.
Try it before the night
Launch the game once with a friend’s phone or two, or your own phone as a player. It takes five minutes and shows you every screen the room will see.
