Phones are the buzzers
You don’t need any hardware to play a buzzer round. In the Grid, Buzzer race and Top answers rounds, every phone shows a big BUZZ! button. The first press reaches AmoQuiz, the screen shows who was first, and the other phones show that this player is answering.
You judge the answer from the host panel. Mark it wrong and the buzzers open again for everyone else.
When the buzzers open
By default the buzzers stay closed until the question is really on: you press Play for a song or a video, or show the picture. That way nobody can buzz before hearing the first note.
To open them the moment a question appears, open Game settings in the editor and turn on Buzzers live as soon as the question is shown, under the Grid and Buzzer race settings.
When someone buzzes in during a song or a clip, it pauses. If their answer is wrong, it plays on from where it stopped.
Grid questions where nobody buzzes
Some Grid questions are not a race:
- Host’s choice: you pick who answers.
- Auction and Pig in a poke: only the player the question goes to can answer.
- Double points set to all players: everyone answers.
On those questions the buzzers stay off.
USB buttons
On the Pro and Business plans, AmoQuiz also works with physical radio buttons through a USB receiver. They work with the receiver and buttons made for the app. Keyboard-style buzzers that type a letter are not supported.
- In the editor, open Game settings and turn on USB buttons.
- Start the game. A USB buttons card appears in the host panel.
- Plug the receiver into the computer.
- In AmoQuiz Desktop, pick the receiver under Port (press Refresh if it is not listed), then Connect.
- In the browser, use Chrome or Edge, press Connect and choose the receiver in the window the browser opens. Other browsers can’t reach USB devices.
- Switch the buttons on. They show up as Buttons detected within a few seconds.
- In the same card, give each player or team a button from the Button list. A team that has no phone can be added with Add team (or Add player) and play with a button only.
Phones and buttons can play in the same game: whoever presses first, on either, answers first.
In a web game the receiver can also plug into the computer that shows the game screen. Press Connect on the game screen, and the host panel lists the buttons it found there.
A button doesn’t show up
- Check that it is switched on and its battery is charged. A button that stays silent for 15 seconds drops off the list.
- In AmoQuiz Desktop, press Refresh and make sure the right port is chosen.
- In the browser, use Chrome or Edge, on app.amoquiz.com.
- A press from a button nobody has been given does nothing. Give it to a player in the Button list.
