How it plays
The board shows categories and point values. A team picks a cell, the question opens, and the first to buzz in answers. You press Correct and they win the points, or Wrong and the buzzers open for everyone else. The cell is then played, and the next pick goes on until the board is clear.
AmoQuiz is not affiliated with the Jeopardy! show; the Grid is our own round in that style.
Building the board
- Press Add round and choose Grid.
- Press Add category for each column, and Add question for each value in it. Five categories of five questions is the classic board; three by three is plenty for a party.
- Set Price of the first question in the round’s settings. Each row is worth that much more: with 100, the rows are 100, 200, 300 and on.
New games draw one category per column. To have categories as rows instead, open Game settings and change Grid board.
How teams answer
Choose the round’s answer mode:
- Buzzer: the first to buzz in answers out loud. Phones show a big buzz button; USB buttons work too. See Buzzers.
- Type answer: everyone types an answer on their phone, and everyone right scores.
With Buzzer + typed answer, the first to buzz types their answer instead of saying it, which helps in a loud room. A buzz with no answer loses the points. ×2 for first buzz doubles the points for the first to buzz. Host’s choice lets you pick who answers, with no buzzing.
Questions with a twist
A cell can be more than a regular question. Change its Question type:
- Double points: worth twice as much. Under Who answers, choose Only the one who chose, or All players, where everyone answers and the one who picked it gets double.
- Auction: players offer points for the right to answer, and the highest offer answers. You enter the winning offer in the host panel before you judge the answer.
- Pig in a poke: whoever picked the question must pass it to someone else. It can be on another topic, and worth a different value.
Mix in one or two per board: they are what people talk about after.
Tips
- Put a picture, a song or a clip in a question to make it a music or picture category. Buzzers stay closed until you press Play, so nobody buzzes before the first note.
- Turn on Answer timer so whoever buzzed has a set time to answer.
- The easiest questions go at the top. A board that is too hard stalls the room.
